Picture of the Week

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFew people get to see a Florida fighting conch’s eye as close up as you’re getting to. Florida fighting conchs are one of Florida’s most common snails. They get the name “fighting” conch because when picked up, fighting conchs don’t duck in their shells. Instead they show their “claw” (a feature of the fighting conch that looks sharp and dangerous, but is really more like a feather) or they thrash around in a fighting behavior.

a related post to this one is my horse conch post.
